  1. Simple, elegant, and unpretentious. The way it should be.

  2. After the children and grandchildren all flew the coop, my wife and I decided that stringing lights on our house no longer made sense. Still we wanted to do something to celebrate the holidays. My wife, at one time, was a florist and had kept a supply of wreaths and ribbon when she sold the business. Now we hang 4 or five of these on the doors and windows facing the neighborhood.

  3. Perfect.

    Inflatables not required.

  4. Very tasteful. And I bet there was a small dustup at the November Session meeting over whether any money should be spent on wreaths, whether there should even BE wreaths, and whether there should be any decoration at all.

  5. Understated, quiet, and lovely.

    Kind Regards,

    1. Yes. When I was a child several families of us friends rented a big house together for the week after Christmas. Up before dawn for a big communal breakfast and to be the first at the mountain for skiing, then home after dark.Their were ten of us children and the living room of the house ran the whole length of the back looking out over the mountain. There were big fireplaces at each end. After dinner us kids would play games at one end while the adults would enjoy their drinks and conversation at the other. We fell into our beds late in the unheated bedrooms exhausted but happy, wondering what the next day would bring. It was a tradition for years.

    2. We all love Christmas vacation. I am talking about the Chevy Chase movie with lights you can see from outer space. Do New Englanders appreciate the Griswolds?

    3. My older brother's family enjoyed the movie series so much that they painted 'The Griswolds' on their mailbox.

  7. This is what our house looks like - but the bow is even more simple because I tied it myself.

  8. We did that for a couple of years, although not with cut greenery, but the wind always caused problems when we hung them on the windows. Another thing we used to do was to create an ornament over the front door with apples. Haven't done that for a while, either. It took a lot of apples as I recall.

  9. In addition to celebrating the season with genuine joy, beauty and dignity, there’s also the lost quality of humility exhibited here . Maybe Christmas, maybe even things other than Christmas - like daily life, for instance - should be about something slightly more important and lasting than…me? Merry Christmas to all.

  11. We do wreaths on all our front windows, with (battery) candles on the sills. It makes me ridiculously happy. That and my car wreath.
