The Launch

Summoned by VHF Radio.

While there are a variety of power boats that fall under the category of "launch," one favorite is the small vessel that brings people from the docks to the moored boats and back again, operated by the organization that leases the moorings.  They have to be practical, and the drivers routinely demonstrate extraordinary prowess and calm when maneuvering strong tides, winds, very expensive boats, and occasionally very impatient patrons.

For passengers, a launch is also the best place to get up to speed on current conditions, interesting wildlife sightings, and local news.  Of course, needing to get to or from a moored boat when there is no launch service provides a test of ingenuity and grit.

Always Fenders.

From shuttling V.I.P.s...

...to hauling enough gear for a crossing.

Reciprocal clubs offer reciprocal launch services, but these can change with little notice.

The launch driver skills never leave you.
