A reader question:
Since SWNE attracts a discerning crowd, these are a couple of questions from a neighbor. Do you have any recommendations about where to eat (outside) on Martha's Vineyard? How about markets where she can buy (sea)food and take back to the cottage to heat up later? Any other info (she hasn't been there in a few years) or suggestions will be passed along and greatly appreciated!
In Edgartown you have Espresso Love for to-go breakfast and lunch with limited outdoor seating, Behind the Bookstore for outdoor lunch, The Atlantic, & L'Etoile for dinner. Also recommend Menemsha Fish Market / Larsen's for seafood -

ReplyDeleteThe Quarterdeck in Edgartown is a take-out place, but it's a short walk to the pier where there are picnic tables. There is a great view of the water and you can watch the Chappy Ferry go back and forth.
ReplyDeletewe've been to this place, both to bring home and eat at the nearby (public) tables. if you want no-frills boiled lobster, claims etc., great choice. we didn't get into the fried food.
DeleteI second this recommendation. The Quarterdeck is a great choice, and the town pier has one of the best views in town. I visited last summer, but the town was doing construction on the pier and I could not eat at my favorite spot. Hopefully they are done and are ready for the coming summer.
DeleteI second Menemsha Fish Market! They also used to have nice sweatshirts to purchase if you got a little chilly while eating.

ReplyDeleteBring a roll of 100 dollar bills. I had a similar 'attack' when I lost my car $400 car key recently. Clams are good though.

ReplyDeleteNot quite relevant but tangentially so. I wonder if any of your readers remember The Menemsha Bar at the corner of Lexington Avenue and East 57th Street in New York City. It was in the basement of the Allerton Hotel for Women. It boasted a marvelous "live" panorama of Menemsha Harbor and has been lovingly remembered here:

Larsen’s of course. Meneshema sunset and a cup of fish chowder as the appetizer. And then bring fresh fish back to have dinner at home.

ReplyDeleteNet Results in Vineyard Haven sells fresh seafood and has takeout for fried seafood and lobster rolls. They have picnic tables outside.
