Do You Shop for Tailored Items Online, and if So, How?

This little late rally on shopping at O'Connell's sets up another great set of questions for Muffy's readers:

Do you shop for clothing online or at stores, or do you shop for some things online like shirts or sweaters but other things only at stores, such as tailored items? If you buy tailored items online, do you provide information for things like cuffs or do you buy online but have final alterations done by a local tailor (or are you able to cuff trousers and sew buttons yourself)?

Horn-rimmed Eyeglasses

Dear Editor,

Thank you for such a wonderful blog. My husband and I both read SWNE daily and love your insight, images, and devotion to Volvos - haha! I had a quick question that I was unable to find an answer or related articles when searching your blog, so I figured I'd go ahead and write.

My husband and I both wear eyeglasses and are curious to know if you or your readers have recommendations on where to shop for quality frames (horn-rimmed, classic styles preferred). I'm curious to know if anyone has recommendations for brands or shops that offer quality without obnoxious "designer" logos.

Thanks so much!

Great Brands and Items You Miss?

Dear Muffy, the discussion of the Norwegian pullover got me to reflecting. What are the brands and items of old that you and your readers would love to see return?  I miss the Sperry Kudu, the Bass Sportoccasin, Canterbury belts (especially the surcingles), the Gant Hugger, Lily Pulitzer's off the wall GTH pants for men, and, perhaps most of all Chipp.

February

Photos by Salt Water New England

“I don't lie about a winter temperature I've seen on the thermometer outside my bedroom window, when I report it at the office later in the morning. But if it is a very low reading, I don't announce it right away either. I wait for others to report the reading on their thermometers. Then, if the reports are higher than mine, I weigh my timing carefully, and at what I consider to be an appropriate moment, play my own reading....

A brief but satisfying victory is mine if there follows nothing but some wows, no-kiddings, and is-that-rights. Often, however, someone will have waited even longer to play an even lower temperature. The victory is then his or hers.”

What are Some of the Great Prep School Rivalries?

Choate Headmaster George St. John, Center (Seymour on Left).  Photo by My Father

“Choate has been playing Deerfield since 1922, but it wasn’t right away that we became rivals...,” said Ms. Judy Donald, the Choate Rosemary Hall Archivist.  The rivalry officially started with a football game between Choate and Deerfield on October 7, 1922. Ms. Donald said, “The headmasters George St. John and Frank Boyden knew each other very well, so starting the rivalry seemed logical....  The early games from the 20s exhibited the ideal rivalry in the eyes of both men: clean sportsmanship above all else, but a healthy competitive spirit and desire to win.”

Dog Breeds

Yesterday at the beach.

If you had to stack rank your top three dog breeds, what would your list include, what would the order be, and why?
