Best Summer Annuals for Container Planting?

I have received several inquiries about favorite/best annuals for containers, so I thought I would put it out for the community.

While I always have pink or white Geraniums in various pots scattered about,  in the photo above is a Scaevola in pink which is incredibly hardy and long lasting, though I also have it in the blue in other planters.  Supertunia, which is a new one for me.   And a Pure White Butterfly, a simple Daisy.

What are your favorites?

  1. I love to include bocopa or helichrysum in my flower boxes because they cascade so beautifully over the edge.

  2. I have a problem with the deer eating everything but I found they will not eat Dipladenia's so I use them in planters. I finally found a way to keep them from eating all my bird seed. I buy hot pepper seed that does not keep the birds from eating but the deer will not eat.

  3. White spreading petunias around a boxwood topiary in a Chippendale planter. Simple and classic.

  4. Cuphea (cigar plant) VERY tidy, blooms endlessly, very drought tolerant and the hummingbirds love the tubular flowers

  5. I just planted a Pink Geranium and Catmint(nepeta). The soft pink and blue pair nicely together. In the fall, I'll find a spot to plant the Catmint in the ground and bring the geraniums inside to enjoy.

  6. We too have are visited routinely by Bambi and his droogs, so opt for Begonias and Marigolds all over the place, which the roving band of deer seem not to enjoy. Hanging baskets along the front porch. Some sort of purple flowers this year.

    Kind June Regards,
