My boys used to enjoy finding all sorts of little creatures in that salt pond...baby lobsters, anemones, sea cucumbers, urchins and clambering about on the very slippery rocks. "Edge of the Sea" is my favorite Carson book.
Rachel Carson deserves much more credit for her brave work in conservation and scientific caution, commonly known as "sustainability". The pioneering work "Silent Spring" remains a notable and important accomplishment.
There is a very nice nature preserve in her name near Wells, ME too.
