ReplyDeleteI'm sure this didn't sound quite as rude in your head. For the love of our Savior, Cirquitormeister, take down this comment.
DeleteIt is doubtful I shall ever read or even hold this book, but I like to remember that preppy is a progeny of Ivy, and Ivy "broke the mold." For generations, our forebears wore dark suits, white shirts and collars, black oxfords, Chesterfields, Homburgs, and staid ties. Then Ivy showed up in frayed khakis, colored OCBDs, bright repps (or even tieless!), yellowed Adlers (and, eventually, sockless) with Weejuns, and even, on occasion, ball caps and sweatshirts. We were at least as big a break from our parents as were the hippies. The big, and very sad, difference with preppies is that they evolve not according to their own spirit but at the nudging of a vast world of style fueled by cheap goods, many made offshore and of materials that do not exist in nature.
ReplyDeleteThat's a rather serious misuse of the word "infamous."
ReplyDeleteI think not!
