New from Cordings - The Navy Portsmouth Peacoat for Men, Made in England

All Photos of Muffy Aldrich
A Peacoat should be 100% wool and 100% Made in England.

The Navy Portsmouth Peacoat from Cordings of Piccadilly is precisely what I am talking about – a pure coat made the way they are supposed to be made.  At a time when so many wool garments are being watered down with synthetics and production is being moved to "imported," this peacoat jumps out.

Robust is an understatement when talking about this fabric  24 ounces of pure and heavy wind-defying British wool, with a collar that stands up properly.

It is not necessary for a Peacoat to have a very snappy red tattersall wool lining.

But it is awfully fun when they do.

The sleeves are lined with the Cordings gold satin, and the buttons are made of real horn.

  1. I love the jacket's lining . Barbour's bright interiors always attract me too , like the Original Northumbria and Beauchamp .

  3. I like the scarf very much. I envy you that scarf. My college was Keble, Oxford, and despite its early attempts to be radical in outlook and construct the weirdest building in town ("That's not a college, it's a Fair Isle sweater"), Keble has the most boring scarves and ties: navy with red and white stripes. Sad, very sad.

  4. Well, nothing against Cordings but my peacoat came from the (U.S.) Naval Clothing Factory.

  5. Portsmouth pea coat ?

Not many navy types left in Pompey these days. More admirals than ships.

  6. Cordings has outstanding products and even better people. I recently ordered a coat from them and when I purchased the item was advised in bold print that the purchaser is responsible for any import taxes. They shipped via courier and the item was put on delivery hold until I reimbursed them for the tariff which was 30 percent of the sales price. I have no issue with Cordings or the Courier. I was given fair warning, the item was shipped and received promptly after tariff reimbursement, and I could conveniently pay the duty to the Courier online. Just do not want your readers to be surprised by the new circumstances on some international purchases, which includes a recent removal of the $800 or below item exemption from import duties. Thank you for your informative website.

  7. That's a very reasonable price for a 100% wool peacoat that's made in England. Mine's a bargain from Original Montgomery which, sadly, is iclosing down. At that price point, Gloverall offers the longer Churchill. Those with deeper pockets may wish to consider Private White VC.
