A reader question:
I have a question for the community. Is there a general consensus about where the best places to live in New England are?
Generally speaking, it seems like there are the expensive, and getting more expensive, upscale towns near the water, where the target audience is middle-aged and probably with children, like Duxbury, Massachusetts. Then there are places like the old mill towns that are being revitalized and attracting a younger, artsy sort of crowd, like Biddeford, Maine. And then there are the dreary spots that seem forever stuck, which I won't name.
Are there any towns or villages that sort of skim from the top of the first two categories, that aren't wildly expensive, or too wild?
