Husband, Boston cop, night shift, he so loved it. Had a ritual every morning would be out front smoking his last cig before he went to bed, raising his highball glass to neighbors as they passed by to work in the morning...some laughed, some cursed, some gave The Bird that he was going to sleep as they would be fighting morning traffic in whatever weather, some raised their coffee cup in salute...those were the days in The Hood.
An image not too far removed from my own version of 5:30am, which kicks in next Monday when the fall semester starts. Looking forward to the start of class. Rising three hours sooner than has been the case since May? Not so much.

ReplyDeleteRegarding the size of the coffee cup, at a certain age all that delicious liquid had to go somewhere sometime . . . .
ReplyDeleteI’ll happily explain the above joke, but I have to go. Perhaps later.
Deleteto be awake is to live...

DeleteI've been out walking my dog for half an hour at that point. We do 4 miles every morning, up and down long, steep hills.
