Boat and Tote Zip Pouch, Hold the Beans

Photos by Salt Water New England
I use one or more of the L.L. Bean Boat and Tote Zip Pouches as cosmetic bags/general hold-all bags inside my summer Boat and Totes that I use as pocketbooks.  It is sturdy, reasonably priced, and is available (occasionally) in some tasteful colors.   They are made in Maine of the same 24 oz canvas as their totes.  And it takes the Dark Pink monogram very nicely indeed.

If you find the Bean label and/or the brownish tan Bean Boot laces that are used for the pulls a bit regrettable, you can quickly remove them.  Here is how I do it.

And as an aside, for whatever reason,  Beans uses a much higher quality YKK zipper for their Canvas Pouches than they do for the zippers on their tote bags.
Cut off the tag.  Obviously.
Wearing:

Remove the zipper pull.

Remove the Bean label by...

...using a seam ripper first on the inside of the pouch...

...and then on the outside.

The outline will fade nicely with use.  At least my others have.

Cut off the handle.

If you look inside the bag you will see that it is sewn in.

Use tweezers to pluck out the threads from the outside.

It can be removed without a trace, and with minimal impact to the pouch.

The resulting bag is bright, made in Maine, and very useful.

I also get the pouch in Natural, shown here with a monogram in Lime, which is an acceptable, but not great shade, and the monogram in Dark Pink on the Blue, which is a quite good shade of pink.

Pouch YKK zipper on left, the lesser tote bag zipper on the right.

Monogram Style: Flared

  3. What does the spot where the label was look like once it has faded? Could you upload a photo of one faded please?
