A reader question:
I am hoping for help from the community in my search to find well made all cotton khakis. I am looking for a comfortable fit that will allow me to move easily and yet will not be too big and baggy. I am a slim woman, probably an inch or two shorter than Muffy and of the same generation.
The khakis I have been wearing were from shops that no longer make the quality and style I am looking for or have closed their doors. I have had trouble finding such pants for many years and now I am down to my last pair.
Where will Muffy and others of the community go for their new khakis?
So glad you asked that question.
ReplyDeleteI, too, am so glad you asked that question.
ReplyDeleteTalbots (the old standby) has 2 types - chinos - in lots of size choices.
ReplyDeleteSince I live in Florida I look for a lighter weight and wear Talbots for that reason. I am excited that they have the straight legs back. I have ordered khaki, navy and olive. I like them, but Talbot's quality is not what it once was. I think they will serve me well for my climate. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteI too have been wondering where to find chinos. Talbot's quality seems to be in steady decline and very inconsistent. The same can be said for LL Bean. Muffy and friends, please help! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI agree, I haven’t bought from them in years.
DeleteI have struggled with this myself. I finally gave up looking and bought a pair of Jack Donnelly Twill Slim Chino M4 (made for men) in Khaki, took them to my favorite tailor and had them fitted to me. They’re perfect. The fabric is excellent quality, the chinos are more comfortable than well worn in jeans and better at regulating temperature than jeans. Please note that I have a rather straight shaped body so this trick may work better for me than someone who has lovely curves.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to find all cotton. Would you be interested in something which is 98% cotton/2% stretch?
ReplyDeleteThe original author may not be, but I am. Because I am incredibly petite I am too slim for either Talbots or LL Bean.
DeleteEileen Fisher has a cotton hemp pant styled like khakis which are the closest thing I've been able to find to decent ones of the past. The material is substantial but I didn't check to see if they have petite sizes in that style.
DeleteI am a man, but, over the years, I have found Orvis to have excellent Khakis - cotton, heavier fabric than many vendors, and simple traditional styling. I know they offer women's khakis/chinos but I don't know if they are the same.
ReplyDeleteI really like the women's khakis from Orvis. Very comfortable and durable.
DeleteHave you thought about a local tailor making a pair for you or having a pair altered. Everyone should know/have a good tailor, IMHO.
ReplyDeleteAlex Mill. You may hate the company but stay for the khakis and select items.
ReplyDeleteDear Anon, Not hating this; liking recycling. Will give Alex Mill a whirl. Thank you for the recommendation. Yours truly, Anon.
DeletePerhaps Sid Mashburn?
ReplyDeleteI’ve just purchased a pair of khakis from AYR. They’re called The Metropolitan.I haven’t received them yet but they look promising. So far I’ve been pleased with my jeans from them.
ReplyDeleteI’d like to recommend the company “American Giant” for American made. the sawbuck chinos are perfection
