Interesting photos. So interesting that I just did a quick tour of the town via Google Maps. The street views are always interesting. In the street view of our house, my wife was caught out front watering her flowers. I especially like seeing the topiary here and there. I also liked the banner hanging on the front of the Essex Savings Bank: "Sail In For Free Checking".
Very nice. I should think the challenge of this photography is capturing the essence of these towns without including real estate offices which have sup[planted so many of the old stores on "quaint" main streets.
This is what Autumn is supposed to look like! Love the Privateers sign about pizza and that vintage Porsche. May I ask what make of camera you use Muffy?
I was so entranced by the cuteness of the village I didn't even notice the cars. Thanks for helping us be arm-chair travelers when we're not yet feeling comfortable enough to venture far afield in person. And thank you for identifying the location. Love the quaintness of the shops and the scenes. (I want that white house with the hedge in the front!)
We were in Essex and Old Saybrook yesterday on a beautiful, blue bird day like these photos. Spent time with long-term friends at a long, leisurely lunch at Penny Lane Pub - a great day.
I'm going to show my own "vintage" with this comment, but the only cars pictured which are worth their salt are the old 240D, and the old 911. Great stuff.
I'll help Muffy here - the coat is the "Bark Herringbone Donegal Follifoot" from Cordings (I have the same one, and it is magnificent. Everything anyone could ask for a a tweed coat.) Hope this helps.
Gorgeous pictures of a New England autumn.

ReplyDeleteThe tweed coat you're wearing in the first photo is quite good looking. What is the maker?
