Are other readers watching BBC's <Line of Duty>, and if so, could they share their thoughts?
Favorite quote from Season 3 (with apologies to LBJ):
HASTINGS: The signed authority from Superintendent Summers is a bit like grandma’s nightgown -- it covers everything.
I'm interested in one thing, and one thing only . . . and that's BENT COPPERS!!
ReplyDeleteNo, thanks. So disturbing to listen to dialectal British English.
ReplyDeleteGosh, that's a bit snobbish. No "Peaky Blinders", "Doc Martin" or "All Creatures Great and Small" for you then; just Received Pronunciation. This article is an interesting read: https://qz.com/624335/the-reason-you-discriminate-against-foreign-accents-starts-with-what-they-do-to-your-brain/
DeleteHave not really made up my mind yet, whether it is a keeper or not!
ReplyDeleteOf course we are watching! The show is much less about character and much more about plot and action than other British offerings, but it's SO compelling.
ReplyDeleteI watched part of the first season - too disturbing, especially that little boy.
ReplyDeleteThat little boy should help us understand the kind of people that commit mass killing.
DeleteI thoroughly enjoyed the series and am happy to read that the new season will air in the US this month.
ReplyDeleteI suspect season 6 will jump the shark. We've figured out the gimmicks and it just gets too hard to sustain the thrills. The unpredictability starts to become predictable. In a fun way. That said I've watched the first five seasons twice: still enjoyed the shocks and appreciated the intricacies of the twists and turns even more. Great writing and acting by the 3 principals, supporting cast, and superb guests.
ReplyDeleteFirst episode of Season 6 drops tonight!!
