It would be interesting to know how much you paid. Even after Brexit, the vast majority of lobsters that are caught in British waters are exported to EU countries, e.g. Spain. Fresh seafood prices (if you can find it) in our shops and restaurants are still very high. Our local fish and seafood sources are supermarkets where the quality is mediocre and the choice is very limited. For an island nation, that’s just crazy!

DeleteThat's cheap, The Cornish Fishmonger charges around $170 a pound for lobster meat and it could be frozen.
DeleteLive lobster is $12 a pound in the grocery store, in Ellsworth, Maine on Nov 10, 2024. Figure a third of the live weight is cooked meat, so $36 a pound if you cook and shell them yourself. Less if you get them at the dock.
DeleteAs recently as about five years ago, Hannaford would have good sized live lobsters for $6.99/lb in November.

ReplyDeleteThat's Atlantic Edge Lobster in Boothbay Harbor. https://www.atlanticedgelobster.com/about The 'spud barge' with crane was used to build our pier two years ago. It's massive. Fuller Marine, whose offices are next door to Atlantic Edge, advised us to raise the pier an additional two feet in light of wicked winter storms (two of which came to pass last year) so it would survive the storm surges. Many didn't all along the coast, so we were lucky. In the first photo, our house is visible on the far shore just above the Harbor Island house with the three skylights.
ReplyDeleteTerrific images. We're still enjoying fall colors here in NE Georgia. We've had the luxury of 2 falls this year in VA and GA. I am reveling in the beauty of it all.
