FIS 3 is the black Herreshoff Fishers Island 31 KESTREL. Or at least that was her name when I sailed aboard her during a passage on a squally day between Wianno, Cape Cod and Nantucket for The Opera House Cup. In the heaviest gusts she'd put her shoulder down and power through like a Clydesdale. Hugely impressive. The small white sloop with the tan boom tent on a mooring was ours for several years, now owned by a young couple in Newcastle, Maine. It's great to see her in such good shape. A Tomales Bay (CA) One Design designed and built by Paul Gartside, her story can be found here: https://gartsideboats.squarespace.com/custom-boatbuilding/tomales-bay-one-design-jessie-design-113.html
Hmmm. Interesting. Most experienced bee keepers avoid wearing the color blue. They avoid any color frequently that is closer to the color of flowers. Maybe these folks have a handle on something new and different.
The photos of the wind powered craft bring back memories when I was a boat boy at the Blue Water Marina on the south short of Long Island. Thanks for the memories.
As a sailor I always enjoy your pictures of the sailing yachts and other water craft. With the upcoming Louis Vuitton and America's Cup races I was wondering if your other readers follow these races anymore since the beautiful lines of a 12 meter sailing yacht have been replaced with bicycling catamarans.
Indeed. Good comment, more fun following the Newport to Bermuda race where old classics like Carina and Hound dominated. Let's hear it for beauty and speed and great designs.
True perfection! Thank you so very much!
ReplyDeleteLove that Land Rover!!
ReplyDeleteObviously all the sailboat picture are perfection, but I *love* the little Optis chugging along!!
