  3. That crane is as confusing as an over style boom vang. What is it used for?

    1. That's at Bath Iron Works - they build Navy destroyers.

  4. Patsy, thank you identifying the crane, I didn’t catch it at first! My grandparents lived in Wiscasset, and my grandfather worked at BIW as a pipefitter for many, many years. On every visit, as soon as we went over the bridge and saw that crane, we would say, “there’s Pop’s crane!” Even though he probably never actually operated it… I love seeing Muffy’s photos of Wiscasset and surrounding areas - so many great memories of many visits there growing up.

    1. You are showing your age. Most of the "younger" generation does not know who he is. :)

  7. We lived in Wiscasset for a few years when we were first married. I worked in Bath building boats. The BIW crane was visible from our bedroom window when we moved upriver to Days Ferry after we had our first children. At night the red lights on it caused our oldest to believe it was 'a dragon', so we made a game out of it. Every time we'd drive south or north, day or night, when the crane came back into view whoever saw it first got a kiss.

  8. The first building you are showing, with the wreaths at each window, looks like the one on the Main Street between Newcastle and Damariscotta, Maine.
