  5. I agree, anonymous April 29. All the new money in the world can’t purchase that certain je ne sais quois that old money possesses without trying.

  6. Interesting. The hubs and I were just chatting about the Triscuit and Cabot cheddar post and were both astonished to learn that, unbeknownst to us, we were each sitting on family cottage porches eating Triscuits with cheddar on them all during our seemingly forever long teenage and young adult summers. I, coming from a more frivolous branch of the WASP tree that daringly left New England after the revolution, was treated to a *broiled and dusted with celery salt* version of that pre-dinner cocktail(s) hour snack. Upon learning this fact, my husband, of a more "what's wrong with this jacket, it only has seven holes in it..." branch of WASP immediately said, "good Lord, think of all the money you could have saved if you hadn't purchased that celery salt..." Porsches would never, and I do mean never, cross any of our family's minds as a real purchases. No matter the millions in the bank. Displays of wealth in the form of expensive vehicles, or even fashions from this decade, being highly frowned upon. Ahem.
