Great Easter colors!
ReplyDeleteBest shirts! They last forever…….even longer if you don’t use starch.
ReplyDeleteSuperb!
ReplyDeletePeople say these shirts last forever. I read about them, knew a favorite TV personality wore them exclusively, and longed to try them. Finally my wife bought me my first for Christmas a few years ago. I had been a Brooks Bros man up until then. Got the Mercer and wore it maybe 7 times when the cuffs started to fray. Very disappointed. Hung it in the closet and almost never wear it so that I always have it, so to speak. But have bought no more. Buying old stock Brooks on ebay now. Might have been the starch, and I have not starched any OCBD since. Wash and gently iron them myself. Worth it. JDV
ReplyDeleteTheir prices are above what I would pay for a new cotton shirt, but once upon a time, I went to a lot of trouble to order some made-to-measure shirts made by some shop in Blackburn, Lancashire. That was about fifty years ago. I think I ordered three or four, one of which was with a detachable collar (What was I thinking?). One was nylon, another was oxford cloth. They all had stiff, trubanized collars, which I particularly wanted. I don't remember them being too expensive, but I was in college then and money was kind of scarce. At the time and for a few years afterwards, living in rooming houses, I sent my shirts to the laundry. The laundry lost one of them.
DeleteFirst off, I am an avid viewer of this site and it is one of my favorites. The picture of the Pink and White University Stripe Pima Cotton Oxford and the blue belt would you by chance know the brand of the chinos the gentleman is wearing. I am a longtime Bill's fan but no longer. Also have become a Cordings sweater fan due to this site. FYI the founder of Bill's has started Penn Built Chinos will try some this fall if anyone has made a purchase would love to hear some feedback. Thank you for all your efforts on this site.CPD
ReplyDeleteOlder Bill's khakis are great. I don't know what Mr. Aldrich is wearing, but try Jack Donnelly khakis.
DeleteWill do TY Andrew

DeleteI'll always wear a few Mercer shirts because they use a superior cloth and have long collars one really can't find elsewhere; their prices have escalated quite a bit lately compared to other made-to-measure options. My 'standard' work shirt at our business casual office has become Proper Cloth: very nice fabrics and build quality; unfortunately shorter collar points with no way to change that; and a modern made-to-measure interface that makes ordering easy, you can save your sizing idiosyncrasies (extra .25 on the cuff to hide my dive watches) for future orders. And they're substantially less money. All shirts wear much better if you launder at home, damp dry them for a bit, then hang them to dry. It does mean having someone iron them (that's me, I find ironing and cleaning dishes relaxing).
ReplyDeleteI have tried a Proper Cloth shirt order, they have more sizing variations, but Mercer have made some adjustments on my orders that were perfectly satisfactory. My Proper Cloth shirt arrived, the fit was perfect, but the differences in fabric are very noticeable, I definitely prefer Mercer fabric. Collars different as well, but not objectionable on the Proper Cloth, which was sewn and finished in Vietnam. They do nice work to meet their price point, but I'm content to pay a little more for Mercer quality and USA production. Oh, and Mercer do not bombard me with emails as Proper Cloth does, following becoming a customer.
DeleteI love everything about Mercer & Sons shirts except the way they're cut. I'm skinny and they're just too baggy on me. They certainly are comfortable though.
ReplyDeleteI’d love to see a run like this with women’s spring/summer clothing. I recently retired and am finding it very difficult to settle on a new wardrobe. I need suggestions for day to day casual wear as well as ideas for what women are wearing when lunching. I was always beautifully dressed at work but I’m having difficulty finding the right mix. I never seem to have anything to wear despite having a closet full of clothes! Suggestions greatly appreciated.
