Favorite Home Office Purchase?

The Home Office This Morning - Photo by Salt Water New England
Two recent home office purchases, an all-in-one computer and a Blue Yeti microphone, have been well used over the past few months.

Given that, several readers have asked:
What have been favorite home office purchases over the last year?

  1. #2 pencils. A few sharpened #2 pencils near at hand are a luxury. While most writing is digital and most non-digital writing is done with a motley collection of pens, those tall, yellow pencils are a welcome time machine.

    1. Excellent choice…I do remember Eagle Pencils were great…sadly I don’t believe that is the case any longer.

    2. I like pencils as well. I'm addicted to the Pentel mechanical pencil. Was introduced to it during drafting class at university. That was decades ago.

  2. Some vintage cushions for the chairs! Thanks so much!

  3. A peripheral webcam and ring light. The camera and ring light are on their own small tripod that sits behind my computer on my desk and are easily put on and off my desk. The camera sits higher than my computer camera and provides a better view angle for those on the other end. The camera is mounted in the center of the ring light. The ring light combines with ambient light and other room lights to create a much better video image, which is in turn a more professional (and flattering) image.

  4. Paper, Blackwig pencils (and I think they are the best), and an open window on a cool day. Of course there is a computer/printer.
Can't help it--like to write with a pencil or pencil.

  5. For hi-tech: Apple computer (a sequence of desktop & laptop models from 1996 onward), upgraded in hard drive and OS for time to time. And at the distinctly lo-tech end: a gray melamine over particle board conference table top plus legs from a used office furniture store, a setup that cost all of $50 and which has been my office desk since 1996. Typing on both right now...

  6. nothing in the last year, but my favorite home office accessories are an angled keyboard tray with a built-in wrist rest, a wireless track ball mouse, and a big desk protector (my large desk protector/blotter is marooned at my real office, to which I will finally return tomorrow).

  7. It's not nostalgic, but my Jabra Speak 510 (Wireless Bluetooth Speaker) is so much better than comparable products or infernal headsets, ear buds, etc. that I'm able to use it for HD audio hands-free phone and video calls. Why bother with headsets when this inexpensive plug & play item is available?

  8. A nice firm lumbar support pillow for my office chair.

And the lovely and inspiring "No. 30" scented candle from Candlefish, Charleston, SC.

  9. My husband I both work out of the house, so a few months back, we purchased an HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 which does print, fax, scan, copy, save to web accessible. Wonderfully handy piece of equipment for our needs, and reasonably priced. --Holly in PA

  10. An antique Queen Anne style secretary in cherry wood made in PA long ago. It was a bargain, as classic furniture styles are out of vogue just now. It is a lovely place for our correspondence and fits in well with our 18th C. colonial house.

  11. Both of us are retired, so we don't really have a home office as such and haven't purchased anything new within living memory. Of the equipment we do have, however, the one item that gets the most use is our shredder. Following that is the printer. I don't think we could get by without a computer and a printer. I sure miss the big one at work.

  12. My High back leather chair… I love the chair in my home office… the chairs in my business office, meh.

  13. My office hifi system which is very compact. I bought Quad Artera Solus "all-in-one" (amplifier, CD player, streamer and DAC) and Proac Tablet 10 speakers.

  14. A Roost adjustable laptop stand, a second monitor, and an orchid (I love fresh flowers on my desk but am allergic to most).
