Spotty Cotton Bandanas from Cordings of Piccadilly

Photo by Salt Water New England
While perhaps not rising to the utility of Douglas Adams' towels, various cotton squares can meet a lot of needs.  Some people do not like being without one handy.

These 22 inch square Spotty Cotton Bandanas from Cordings of Piccadilly are large enough to be tied around the neck:

  2. Not a bandana, but on a trip to Japan with my wife about ten years ago, I noticed that nicely made cotton handkerchiefs in a variety of designs were available in every convenience store and at railroad station newsstand.

I bought two, thinking this would do me for the trip.

Well, one thing led to another, and I came home with a stack of newsstand handkerchiefs about five inches high, each in a different design. By the end of the trip, when walking by some 7-11, my wife got used to hearing me say, "Just a minute. I have to check their handkerchiefs."

(And indeed these are handkerchiefs, not furoshiki. Those are traditional Japanese wrapping cloths about half a meter (20 inches) square and often printed with pictorial scenes suggesting a particular season.)

Several of the handkerchiefs had little tags showing they were made by Hanes, but don't bother looking for them on their website here — it's all underwear!

  3. Perfection...wish someone would do a classic paisley droplet pattern a la Mitch Daniels (with the Aran knit sweater), in the Birds.

  4. There are also available in red, yellow, navy and green. Then there are also more with red spots and paisley patterns.
