Now is a terrific time to take advantage of all the wonderful shirts, jackets, trousers, knitwear and more that Cordings of Piccadilly has to offer as they have just kicked off their big summer sale.

  2. Just saw that Brooks Brothers has gone Chapter 11. It gets more depressing in retail by the week!

    1. Brooks Brothers has paid the price of over-expansion, especially the stores in 45 other countries. Under Del Vecchio, Brooks Brothers lost its soul and tried to become a global fashion brand Polo Ralph Lauren and Gant. Similarly, Brooks Brothers sells too many over-priced garments with ghastly logos that were made in Malaysia and China.

When Brooks Brothers ruthlessly shut its American factories this year, that was the final straw for me. 51 American stores will close due to the Chapter 11 filing. My sympathy is reserved for the staff who have lost their jobs and the creditors who lost their money. I hope that the new owner, if one can be found, will return the company to its traditional roots.

    2. Brooks Brothers tried to be cool and alienated its core constituency at the very time when it most needed the loyalty of the sort of people who still believe in presenting themselves well. In other words it followed the pattern that has become normal in business, the Church, and to some extent even in sports. It mystifies me that the lesson so seldom sinks in.

  3. I absolutely love the British look of the Cordings coats and tweeds and wool sweaters. I, alas, live in the South and could never wear them here. So happy others can though.

    1. Look out for the linen and cotton jackets in the future. The selection for women is limited this summer. This is may be due to the Covid closure and possible supply chain issues. The ladies' navy blazer is very good value at £195 in the sale.

There are several men's jackets in linen and silk that have caught my eye since the online shop re-opened. I'd buy a few if I had the space but my wardrobes are full. To my knowledge, there is no other British store that offers such a great choice of styles and cloths.

  4. Hadn't heard of Cordings before I discovered your blog. Now I'm afraid I want everything they sell....

  5. I received their email about the sale and jumped at the chance! And I have the same exact hacking tweed jacket that's in Muffy's photo, that I bought last winter. Very happy with the quality. Cordings' tweed blazers are de rigueur for me in the office during the winter months because they are much more versatile and because I dislike matchy-matchy dress suits.
