  1. Hmmm...looks like some of our shelves. 42 years of wedding gifts sitting there
    Delft, Royal Dalton, etc.

  2. That's where I hide the good stuff. No one ever looks down there.

  3. Lower shelves . . . . Ugh. Would love to pare down enough to have all empty lower shelves since it is getting progressively harder for me to access them with comfort. You have some lovely things.

  4. Sad that the millennials don't care for family china or new china (much like watches). I have four sets of china. Two sets are about 75 years old. Neither my son or my daughter want to have it even though they both have their own homes now. I love using it for special holidays and birthdays. The table always looks so beautiful with the china, crystal and silver. I love the tradition of my grandmother's and my mother.

    1. Use it for every day! Hard to learn to appreciate something that only comes out of hiding every so often :)

    2. I agree with Patsy. If you've been gifted or inherited, something useful (and not too fragile) put it out on the table. I donated my stainless steel stuff to the Salvation Army, and use inherited sliver flatware for takeout from the box.

    3. My Mom's entire dining room table was covered with stacks of china, silver, crystal, etc., when her estate was divided among five children, their five spouses and ten grandchildren. Very little of it was wanted.

  7. Yes, indeed. A beautifully set table for the evening meal, or any meal, is a pleasure. That must sound very strange coming from a man, but there we are. However, it's simply one of those things that makes daily life so much nicer, regardless of what happens in the world beyond the front door.

    Best Regards,

    1. It doesn't sound strange at all. I think all genders appreciate quality and beauty. Well said!

  8. Our Wedgewood and crystal sits side by side with the hard liquor. Guess which side of the cabinet is getting more use the past month.

  9. Lately I have been pulling out place settings of our multiple sets just to enjoy them during these crazy times.
