  4. In January 2010 we purchased a sailboat from the US Naval Academy and the first weekend in April we brought it north to our home waters on Long Island Sound. It was pretty chilly as we motored through the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal, sailed before a 20 knot breeze down Delaware Bay, then slogged up the long Jersey coast and finally entered New York Harbor and the East River (I love that you pictured the nautical chart of it). There is nothing more incongruous than being on a sailboat on the East River listening to the rumble of traffic and the blaring of taxi horns and being in a little enclosed world on a boat. The New York skyline from the decks--the twinkling lights of the Chrysler Building and the Empire State building and so many others--is a never to be forgotten sight.
