Reader Question: Favorite Harborside Christmas Events?

Photo by Salt Water New England
A reader question for the community:
I've seen pictures of harbor parades with boats all decorated for Christmas. Is there a list of these for the upcoming season?

  1. While I cannot help with this, the volunteer fire department in Cabin John, Maryland dedicates a reserve engine and decorates it with Christmas lights to drive around, with a chair attached to the top and santa seated in the chair. They publish a schedule and generally go out in the evening.

  4. Santa arriving in Rockport Mass is small but really sweet: cute kids, hot chocolate, tree lighting and Santa on a lobster boat and fire truck. 12/7 this year.

    1. The best part is when the entire town sings Silent Night. My sister-in law cries every single time.

    2. Wait, I'm talking about the Pageant. Is it the same as Santa's arrival? My mom loves when Santa arrives at Pope's Landing in Danvers.

    3. I agree, Rockport has a wonderfully touching Christmas celebration, with Santa arriving from Bear Neck. All the shops turn off their lights and a procession goes up the street with Mary, Joseph, donkeys, etc. When they arrive at the top of the hill, the shops all turn on their lights and have cider, coffee, etc for the shoppers. It reminds you that this is a special time of year. And there is always the Nantucket Christmas Stroll...

  6. Palm Beach and Ft Lauderdale have amazing boat parades! Marblehead doesn't have a parade, since all the pleasure boats are tucked away for the winter, but Santa and Mrs. Claus arrive via lobster boat to the town landing.
