Shetland Sweater: The Men's Luxury Shetland from Bosie Knitwear of Scotland, Made in Scotland

Boise and Bose - Photos by Salt Water New England
A fantastic source of Scottish knitwear is Bosie Knitwear of Scotland.  It was founded by Juliet, whose family has owned the highly regarded Harley of Scotland, makers of seamfree knitwear since 1929.

She offers a terrific and expansive range of knitwear with classic styles and fresh fabulous colors, for both Men and Women, made of pure new wool, and, of course, made in Scotland.

Shetland sweaters are a core of many wardrobes and this Luxury Shetland for Men, unlike others, is made of 88% Shetland and 12% Cashmere, which results in a sturdy but very soft garment.

And when ordering, you can choose your degree of "shagginess".   They offer their Bosie Luxury Shetland’s in Plain (unbrushed), Gently Brushed (brushed once) Shaggy (brushed twice), Extra Shaggy (brushed three times) and Quad Shaggy (brushed four times)

    1. It is highly likely that Harley supplies J Press's Shaggy Dogs. I'm not aware of a competitor, in Scotland or elsewhere, who makes them. The Hawick Knitwear Company, who supplied Cording's shetlands, sadly ceased trading two or three years ago.

  4. I have several of the these sweaters in the classic 100% wool shetland crewneck, all very shaggy (brushed three or four times). They used to offer to make up the shetlands in any colourway they had in what they called "smaller sizes" of 36", 38", 40", and 42" chest. These exact chest sizes are wonderful, as they afford a much better fit than the alpha sizing. The seamless, knit-in-the-round construction makes for a very comfortable sweater with incredible range of motion. They are very warm for their weight and thickness, with just enough heft to be substantial, but without being too thick for wear under a jacket and in our climate controlled world. I highly recommend Harley of Scotland and Bosie if you're looking for shetlands this season.

  8. Absolutely LOVE all that purple! Beautiful. Alas, I gave up wool sweaters about 15 years ago. We may get a week's worth of wool weather each year. It's 95 degrees here in Atlanta today. :-(
