When we lived in Texas we saw our border collie, Colleen, literally herding grasshoppers! A bunch were corned at the back fence and she was bouncing back and forth keeping them in line. If we became to rambunctious she would gently nip at our heels. What a dog! We loved her so much!
Thanks for the picture. I'm partial to dogs/breeds with a purpose. Yes, I know that even those little ones held in the lap between the driver's chest and the air bag have a purpose in the lives of the owner but my preference is for working and sporting dogs. Again, thanks for the picture.
We had a bearded collie, and she would herd the two of us toward the door if she thought we weren't moving quickly enough to take her for a walk. It's in their DNA....
I've had several Border Collie mixes over the years and they always seem to be wanting to herd something. Toys, people coming through the yard, etc. LOL Our dog now is a BC mix and he has no interesting in herding anything, his Great Pyrenees genes prefer sleeping! --Holly in PA
They are just as effective in herding children on tricycles! This happened at a neighborhood block party years back.
ReplyDeleteEqually effective at herding confused Rottweilers as witnessed at a neighbor’s backyard party.
DeleteI was at an indoor party where the hosts had a border collie that was moving room to room: it was trying to herd the guests.

ReplyDeleteThat makes me crazy! If the airbag deploys there are going to be dog bits everywhere :(
