As the start of the shooting season (Glorious Twelfth) finally approaches, one thinks of reaching for tweed. The Shooting Waistcoat is a natural choice, ideal for warm weather, and Cordings offers some exquisite examples. Beautifully made in England of surprisingly lightweight Scottish Tweed, this waistcoat is thoughtfully designed for shooting but can also be worn for general field use.

Great look for shooting party! Muffy, you do a blog post on English Estate Tweeds!
ReplyDeleteI was in London the week before last and stopped by their charming store. The summer sale was on and I picked up two of their incredible silk scarves.
ReplyDeleteAll that are ready for tweed raise their hands! PA
ReplyDeleteAye!
DeleteIf I'm going to hasten my death, it's going to be through mud season, not high, beautiful New England summer - lol!
DeleteAnd what may I ask are we shooting?
ReplyDeleteWe are shooting an advertisement for Cordings, silly.
DeleteGrouse and the shooting starts on the 12th of August, the Glorious 12th. It's an unusually hot summer in Britain so it will probably be too hot for tweed and tattersall shirts.
DeleteAny recommendations for women's tattersall shirts?
ReplyDeleteCordings have some on offer even though the sale has ended officially. They remain priced at £45, down from £65. Laksen is another option, widely available in country stores.
Delete...It's July...
ReplyDeleteDan, you seem to be unaware of one of the key tenants of Prep. Layering, or an item of outerwear, is key, regardless of the season. Indeed, the heavier the outerwear, the better, since it instantly conveys that the wearer lives (i) in New England; (ii) near water or mountains; (iii) without the possibility of ever sweating; (iv) in the case of many Prep ladies, for any chance to dress like their father.
DeleteAnd I thought all hope was lost!
DeleteI love tweed...and I love layering...but it's July...do they not have cotton sweaters or madras sport coats in your part of New England?
DeleteThere are cotton sweaters and Madras on sale at J. Press right now.
DeleteAiken
Is there anywhere to buy these shirts in the US without a $45 shipping charge?
ReplyDeleteCordings may be willing to send them by post rather than Fed Ex or whoever they use. It's worth calling the London store to ask.
DeleteThat vest will team well over Muffy's sweater and turtleneck collection :)
