  1. Thanks! Some years ago when she was owned by The Herreshoff Museum I got to sail on KESTREL from Cape Cod to Nantucket prior to the Opera House Cup through hard rain and squalls. No lifelines on her then. A veritable rocket ship.

  3. I can feel the cool breeze hit me through my computer screen here in hot & sunny Colorado.

  4. Why is it that in most, if not all of the pictures shown on boats, no one appears to be actually wearing "boat shoes"? Do weekend sailors really prefer some sort of sneaker? Not being a boat person this is something I wonder about..

    1. Personally, I prefer a CVO type sneaker. They fit more securely on my feet, provide good traction, and dry quicker. Also, I don't like the feel of wet leather.

    2. Sailor here, when racing I wear lighter weight racing shoes (in warm weather) that look a lot like plain sneakers. I was wondering if those addidas looking shoes on the man in the Bosun's chair were a new Sperry model.

When I'm 'cruising' I wear boat shoes...saving my racing shoes for racing. A lot of the sailors here in the Great Lakes throw on their oldest boat shoes when doing boat maintenance. It makes for some authentic looking wear and tear for love-worn shoes.
