  3. On a point unrelated to Newport, I hate the direction that US military uniforms have gone. In the UK they have Savile Row-made officers' uniforms, and here we have uniforms that look good from a distance but up close usually involve an only slightly improved geriatric sneaker.

  4. Officer candidates from the naval station. I guess that's how I looked when I was there in 1982.

    1. That IS how I/we looked in June '68 when we were pronounced officers & gentlemen by presidential decree and left Newport for the fleet. Thankfully, we could purchase tailor-mades at the uniform shop in the hotel at the top of Truro Street (forget the name after all these years).
Sunday breakfast at The Black Pearl; NYTimes, chowder & coffee.Good times; great town.

  5. Simply..... swoon. Men in uniform means SO much more than just men, simply in uniform. The commitment, the service and sacrifice...

  6. Gee, and I thought that was my DH, in Newport for OCS in ‘79. The picture looks more recent, so I guess it was you, Paul, after all :). Must admit my hubby was pretty cute in his Trop Whites, though.
