  4. My favorite puppy, my favorite dog, and my favorite breed is the one that is with me right now. Been my favorite for over 70 years. Well, I guess I should add that I have struggled when there were those times in my life when there were more than one with me.

  5. How timely this post is for me personally; I pick up my puppy next week in upstate NY (English Setter). I'm counting the days!

  7. They say money can't buy happiness. But it can buy a dog. Have you ever seen an unhappy person with a dog?

  8. Sometimes I tell my friends that I am busy because I'd rather stay home with my dog.

  11. “Some people are very competitive in their birding. Maybe they'll die happy, having seen a thousand species before they die, but I'll die happy knowing I've spent all that quiet time being present.”

  12. “I think the most important quality in a birdwatcher is a willingness to stand quietly and see what comes. Our everyday lives obscure a truth about existence - that at the heart of everything there lies a stillness and a light.”

  13. “Sometimes I think that the point of birdwatching is not the actual seeing of the birds, but the cultivation of patience. Of course, each time we set out, there's a certain amount of expectation we'll see something, maybe even a species we've never seen before, and that it will fill us with light. But even if we don't see anything remarkable - and sometimes that happens - we come home filled with light anyway.”

  14. I had convinced myself to get a Border Collie, after watching a few work in Ireland. ( We've had two in the past.) I had even started scouting Texas/ Louisiana for a female puppy. The day before I was to call the farmer and put a deposit on one I liked, my " kids" in China called. They are having their " official" Chinese wedding( They are married in a civil service) will be in September. So, we will spending 3-4 weeks in China. Not wanting to leave a new pup for a month, it will be probably late Fall, Christmas before I get a new dog....
