Encountering Golden Retrievers

“The Golden Retriever is an outdoor animal... [requiring] exercise - lots and lots of exercise.  No one should think about owning a Golden unless he is willing to walk the dog at least two hours every day, no matter what the weather.  It isn't fair to treat this superb dog otherwise.  He should also have frequent opportunities to retrieve, especially from water.  He loves to swim all year round.”

Bobbie Fournier - “Pioneering Norfolk Breeder”

Original Photographs from Archives
Barbara Fournier... [had] possibly the most influential Norfolk Terrier kennel in US History. Although Bobbie had won her share of honors and finished many champions since obtaining her first Norfolk in 1950, her greatest contribution came in championing the breed, in showing them off when they were virtually unknown, in welcoming newcomers, and in writing the first book on Norfolk Terriers.  - American Norfolk Terrier Association

Old, Comfortable, Not Posh

New Englanders are inclined to differentiate between good and bad by determining whether it's old or new. Frugality, reluctance to change, reliance on the "tried and true", abhorrence of things showy or gaudy, pride in the past, a strong need for tradition and continuity – all these natural inclinations in our personalities result, not surprisingly, in our wearing slightly threadbare old clothes, joining old, comfortable not-posh social clubs, owning old boats, attending old schools and colleges, living in old houses, marrying into old families, and so forth.
