  3. Have not read it, but will read the trilogy now. I was first introduced to the Sassoon name through John Singer Sargent's paintings of the family. This post prompted me to read up a bit more.

  4. Last thirty pages, during which the author sees WWI combat after several hundred pages chronicling a bucolic childhood in the English countryside, creates (in my opinion) one of the most shocking and visceral upheavals in all of modern war literature.
