  1. I'm a fan of the mitten - I do better with them in my climate because I get so cold and need my fingers together for extra warmth. Many of them are handknitted by me of wool from my Local Yarn Shop - really enjoying the Quince and Co. yarns now. :) For extremely cold days I have a pair of down mittens from REI.

  3. I agree with ER - mittens for me! Lauer deerskin lined mittens are fabulous. Cashmere lined leather gloves from Talbots (very old) for super fancy dress - but that's very rare, hence the very old gloves ;)

For outdoor sports (xc skiing, snowshoeing, running, hiking) Swix makes an excellent glove. For alpine skiing, gauntlet mittens with hand-warmers.

  4. Knit wool gloves and Carhartt insulated mittens for everything else (shoveling, clearing snow off of my car, winter walks).

  7. I'd recommend Chester Jeffries. After learning that Dent's doesn't make most of their gloves in England anymore, I went with Chester Jeffries. All of their gloves are made-to-order in England.

  8. For whatever reason, the women in my family always got their gloves at Lord & Taylor when we lived in New York. Nice Italian calfskin. Now in warmer climes -- so Gore-Tex gloves, mainly when we are in ski country - REI.

  10. I wish I could show you my marvellous gloves and mittens. However, the Down Shop in Calgary is a small pretty boutique that I visit from time to time. They sell plush items for the bed and bath.

Two days ago I noticed shearling gloves and mittens fron NewZealand. The price was

$35 Canadian. I bought 2 pairs of gloves and a pair of mittens. I can assure you that these items are the only bargain in that store.
