Reader Question for the Community: Father's Day Presents

SWNE received this question for the community:
I know it is a bit early for this question, especially just coming off of Mother's Day, but I was curious if the community could share their favorite Father's Days gifts.  What did people give last or receive last year, or what are they planning to give this year?   I am not the most imaginative person and always struggle with trying to come up with something a bit different.

  1. Rather than coming up with something "different", might I suggest that you come up with more of the same, i.e., whatever it is that one's father has a particular liking for.

  3. It's always shaving soap, new golf shirts, and a round or two of golf at his favorite golf course. That's what he wants.

  4. If he doesn't take how he dresses too seriously, a couple of pairs of wacky socks [George H. W. Bush-style] would be a neat present. If he isn't particular about his wallet, a very good leather wallet might be well received. If he has favorites in the edibles category [chocolates, marmalade, cheeses], a basket of several of his favorites is sure to please.

    1. What a great idea Hound & Co. My husband and son did exactly that a number of years ago and they had a fabulous time. I got to join them at The American Hotel afterwards and it was a dinner to remember! We love Sag Harbor!!

  10. My top choice would be hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill - a few cold beers - all the fixin's and all of my grown children and my wife recalling all of the crazy things I have done to embarrass them while they were growing up...the mark of a great father !!

  11. A simple Father's Day nod works for me without any fanfare. Of course, my sons are old enough to buy me a Dark & Stormy in town, perhaps two if they behave. ;)

  13. Soundmatters Moment. Bluetooth speaker with a magnetic back. I recently got one for my travel bag. My neighbor saw it and ordered one for his Porsche 356, which has a metal dashboard. This is life changing for an old car owner. Also makes a great grad gift. (sorry I could not post a picture)
