Old Hen, New Eggs

People often ask, "At what age do hens stop laying?"  As of this week, a nine-year-old free range Barred Rock, after taking the winter off, is back in production mode. This puts this chicken on the same calendar as many of the lobstermen.

  2. Have 2 pet hens and they are 5 years old. Now that it is getting sunnier and warmer again, they have gone back into production! Not sure which I am more excited about -- spring coming or fresh organic eggs!
